Today’s post was going to be one long entry for Ailsa’s “Oceans” photo challenge in honor of World Oceans Day. However, it’s going to take me some time to sort through my favorite photos taken during the past week so I figured I’d be better off making it a series of posts instead π Presenting the super friendly hawksbill sea turtle I met this morning in Abdeens Reef!
Diving. It’s awesome π
More photos will be up by tomorrow! (I hope. Haha.)

Lucky you meeting such a fellow
I know! We had not-so-good weather for the past few diving days but El Nido made up for it in spades yesterday morning. I have photos of batfish, chevroned barracuda, and lots of other fun stuff to show you guys π
Is that a red algae on the turtle? Wonderful colors.
Actually I’m not sure. I thought it was a sponge but it’s too fuzzy. So yeah, maybe it’s algae π
Wow, Macy, great underwater shots, he looks like a very distinguished gentleman! π
Thank you! We were very lucky to get such an easygoing subject π
Just amazing!
Thank you! π
I’ve been to El Nido once, although I don’t dive. I was escorting foreign clients of our company who wanted to mix business with pleasure and see the best spots of our country. I never forgot it. In the place we stayed in, Miniloc Island (I don’t know if they have the same system in other resorts), they gave each of us a map of the island, and at the back, pictures of the endangered species found in the island, and we were told that we were legally bound to report sightings of the animals by marking the map with the name of the animal and the date and time of the sighting and turning over the map before we leave the place. The most hilarious part is that the big boss client, a white man in his 60s who’s a decorated soldier, had stayed out late one night drinking at the bar and when he came back to his villa and swung open the door, a giant salamander was standing there as if to receive him. He had to mark the map with the sighting amid his drunkenness.
Your experience here with the turtles is so precious. I wish I could dive too! You have a blessed life. Stay passionate and inspired. π
Yes, all of the resorts have the Eco Checklist (the map with the animal sightings you can note down) but it’s definitely not legally required! Just highly encouraged π Tt was so great of your client to note down the sighting even while drunk π I hope you come back to El Nido soon!
